Is Your Kitchen Exhaust Fan Costing you Money?

October 21, 2020 Posted by Jeff Ralston Kitchen Exhaust Hood

When was the last time you were on your facilities roof top? If you must stop and think, then it may be worth a trip to the roof to look at things. Your Kitchen is your world, you have it running like a well-oiled machine, but do not take your eyes off what lurks above, as it could be costing you thousands of dollars a year.

In the picture above we have captured an error in the design of how the Kitchen Exhaust fan and the AC unit where laid out on this facilities roof top. Do you notice the dirty AC Coils? Any Ideas on how that happened? The short answer is the exhaust fan was installed right next to the coils, which is designed to pull air into the AC Unit. Items like these can increase your expenses in a hurry if they go unnoticed, but do not panic. Catching items such as these in a timely manner allows you to put solutions in place before a larger problem occurs, such as adding an extension to the exhaust fan to get the grease laden vapors above the intake of the AC unit. If they are ignored like in this example, the coils or even the unit may need to be replaced. If left in the current condition not only will it increase your electric bill, it will put a strain on all the elements of the system causing them to fail and be replaced.

Having a plan for check up on vendors and knowing what to look for on your commercial roof top are key to reducing unnecessary cost. Don’t ignore potential issues that lurk above.
